It's simple, it just works, and its shortcuts are pure muscle memory for me. But after switching to an Apple M-series Mac, running it became a bit of a hassle, and the original author has archived the project, so it won't be updated anymore. At first I forked Spectacle, hoping to keep maintaining it myself. Once I got into it, though, I found that compatibility was a major problem with the old codebase, and fixing it wasn't going to be easy. So I took a different route: with the help of AI, I wrote a standalone replacement from scratch. It keeps Spectacle's workflow and window layout logic, and runs natively on both Intel and Apple M-series chips. That's omo. ### Why "omo" It doesn't mean anything in particular. I just typed it on a whim. It's short, easy to remember, and easy to type, so it stuck. ### Highlights - **Universal 2**: a single build runs natively on both Apple silicon (arm64) and Intel (x86_64) Macs, with no Rosetta needed. - **Feels like Spectacle**: the default shortcuts and window layout algorithms match Spectacle's, so existing Spectacle users can switch seamlessly. - **Standalone app**: it doesn't depend on or read any Spectacle settings, and it has no third-party dependencies. - **Supports macOS 12 Monterey and later**. - **13 languages**: English, 简体中文, 繁體中文, 日本語, 한국어, Deutsch, Español, Français, Italiano, Nederlands, Português (Brasil), Русский, Suomi. ### Default shortcuts | Action | Shortcut | |---|---| | Center / Fullscreen | ⌥⌘C / ⌥⌘F | | Left / Right / Top / Bottom half (press again to cycle 1/2 → 2/3 → 1/3) | ⌥⌘← / ⌥⌘→ / ⌥⌘↑ / ⌥⌘↓ | | Upper left / Lower left / Upper right / Lower right | ⌃⌘← / ⌃⇧⌘← / ⌃⌘→ / ⌃⇧⌘→ | | Next / Previous display | ⌃⌥⌘→ / ⌃⌥⌘← | | Next / Previous third | ⌃⌥→ / ⌃⌥← | | Larger / Smaller | ⌃⌥⇧→ / ⌃⌥⇧← | | Undo / Redo | ⌥⌘Z / ⌥⇧⌘Z | Every shortcut can be re-recorded in Preferences. ### More features - Launch at login - Show a menu bar icon, or run entirely in the background - Temporarily disable omo for an hour, or just for the current app (menu: Disable → for an hour / for ) - App blacklist (for apps with their own window management, such as Photoshop or Steam) ### First launch omo needs Accessibility permission to move other apps' windows. On first launch, macOS shows a permission dialog. Click "Open System Settings", then turn on omo under **Privacy & Security → Accessibility**. It takes effect immediately, with no restart needed. ### Downloads [omo for macOS](https://dlhub.binhua.org/omo-macos-v1.0.dmg) ### avim - URL: https://binhua.org/avim/ - Summary: avim is a lightweight, native text editor built for plain text and Markdown files with a clean and distraction-free experience on macOS, iPhone and iPad - Price: freemium - Tags: macOS, iPhone, iPad, markdown, vim **avim** is a lightweight, native text editor for Mac, iPhone, and iPad, built for writing, editing, and previewing plain text and Markdown files with a clean, distraction-free experience. Designed for people who want a simple, fast, and focused writing environment, avim keeps the interface minimal while providing the essential tools needed for everyday document work. On every platform, avim opens and edits UTF-8 text files, including Markdown documents, and offers a built-in Markdown preview so you can switch between raw source and rendered output instantly. It also includes document search, optional line numbers, and PDF export for both plain-text and rendered Markdown layouts. This makes it well-suited for note-taking, writing, documentation, and lightweight content authoring, wherever you happen to be working. ### On Mac Built for macOS 14 and later, avim runs natively on both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs. It follows a single-window, single-document workflow with a familiar menu bar and keyboard shortcuts, prioritizing simplicity and speed over complex features. ### On iPhone and iPad On iOS and iPadOS 18 and later, avim works directly with the Files app: open documents from On My iPhone, iCloud Drive, or another cloud storage provider you use, and edit them in place. Changes are saved automatically, so there is no Save button to forget. Smart quotes, smart dashes, and autocorrect are turned off, so your Markdown syntax is never quietly rewritten. Exported PDFs go straight to the share sheet, ready to save to Files, send via AirDrop or Mail, or print. On iPad, you can open several documents side by side in separate windows and use hardware keyboard shortcuts for search, preview, and line numbers. ### Simple by design There are no unnecessary settings panels, accounts, or heavy productivity extras—just a streamlined editor focused on your files and clear document presentation. With support for standard text formats and an emphasis on native platform behavior, avim is ideal for anyone who values a minimal yet capable writing tool. It is especially appealing to writers, developers, and anyone who prefers a clean, no-frills editor for Markdown and text-based work. ### Downloads [avim for macOS](https://dlhub.binhua.org/avim-macos-v1.1.dmg) [avim for iPhone&iPad](https://apps.binhua.org/appstore/app/avim/id6748354015) - In Review ### CBX.app - URL: https://binhua.org/cbxapp/ - Summary: End-to-end encrypted evidence platform based on blockchain, providing immutable timestamp proof for your important files - Price: freemium - Tags: Website, blockchain, proof **CBX** is an end-to-end encrypted evidence platform built on blockchain (Arbitrum). It gives your important files immutable timestamp proof. - **End-to-end encryption**: files are encrypted locally with your wallet private key, so only you can decrypt and view the original content. - **IPFS distributed storage**: encrypted files are stored on the IPFS network for persistence, global access and censorship resistance. - **Blockchain evidence**: the file fingerprint (hash) and its IPFS address are recorded permanently on-chain, which gives a timestamp proof that cannot be tampered with. - **Public verification**: anyone can verify an evidence record without connecting a wallet. Drop in a file (the hash is calculated locally, nothing is uploaded) or enter a hash directly. - **Fees**: there are no service fees, only the blockchain network gas fee. Records on the chain are permanent and cannot be deleted. ### Links [https://cbx.app](https://cbx.app) ### FDN.io - URL: https://binhua.org/fdnio/ - Summary: Minimalist IP detection & geolocation service. Compare any copy with its original, and when you're done, Dump the whole album with a long press. **ALBUMS — DELETE THE WAY YOU WANT** Browse all your albums in a grid. See at a glance which ones contain photos with GPS data. When you delete an album, choose: • Delete the album only (your photos stay) • Delete the album and the photos that exist only in it • Delete the album and all of its photos Borofish warns you when a photo also lives in another album, and every photo you delete goes to Recently Deleted, where you can recover it for 30 days. **SWEEP — CLEAR EMPTY ALBUMS** Find every empty album in your library and sweep them away in one go. Uncheck any you want to keep. **SEE WHAT YOUR PHOTOS REVEAL** Tap any photo to see its full metadata. The home screen shows how many photos you have and where your most recent ones were taken, a quick reminder of what you might be sharing. **DESIGNED FOR iPHONE AND iPAD** A bold new dark design with smooth animations: clean photos fly into the Borofish album, and empty albums get swept off the screen.
